Eois tegularia (Guenée, [1858]) and Eois glauculata (Walker, [1863]) larvae were studied by one year in semidec iduous forest at Canchim Farm (EMBRAPA), São Carlos, São Paulo, Brazil. Specimens were hosted by species of Piper Linnaeus (Piperaceae): P. mollicomum Kunth, P. amalogo Linnaeus, P. glabratum Kunth and P. gaudichaudianum Kunth. Some parasitoids were reared from the larvae of Eois Hübner, 1818 species, as follow. Hymenoptera: Cotesia Cameron, 1891, Apanteles Foerster, 1862, Glyptapanteles Ashmead, 1904, Dolichogenidea Viereck, 1911, Meteorus Haliday, 1835 (Braconidae); Mesochorus Gravenhorst, 1829, Venturia Schrottky, 1902 (Ichneumonidae); Elachertus Spinola, 1811 (Eulophidae); Perilampus Latreille, 1809 (Perilampidae), Diptera: Myiopharus Brauer... |

The genus Cundinamarca Rindge, 1983 (Geometridae, Ennominae, Nacophorini) is studied. Erilophodes indistincta Warren, 1904, Ischnopteris subalbata Dognin, 1910 and Ischnopteris nigralbata Dognin, 1913 are placed under Cundinamarca comb.n.. Two new synonyms are established: Isclmoplerix subalbata whiíei Prout, 1934 is a júnior synonym of Ischnopteris subalbata Dognin, 1910; Cundinamarca parallela Rindge, 1983 is a júnior synonym of Ischnopteris nigralbata Dognin, 1913. A new species is described: Cundinamarca rindgei. The genus is first time recorded from Brazil and Paraguay. |

In the state of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil, the phytophysiognomy known as Cerrado takes less than 1% of its original cover. Thus, the establishment and management of protected areas are essential to save a significant sample of biodiversity of this environment in the region. The Santa Bárbara Ecological Station is one of the largest protected areas in São Paulo, and one of the few ones to cover a mosaic with most of the vegetation types of Cerrado. This article aims to increase the knowledge of avifauna in the reserve, showing new bird records and evaluating the association of species to their physiognomies. We carried out surveys from 2008 to 2013, which resulted in the record of 226 species, or 246 when in regard to Willis & Oniki’s works (1981,... |

In Sula leucogaster (Boddaert, 1783) it happens a brood reduction from two to one egg. The eggs hatch asynchronously and it is rare for the second chick to survive for long. A quantify parental investment is proposed and the differences between males and females of Sula leucogaster is verified for to help to understand the brood reduction. The studies were conducted on Ilhas dos Currais, Paraná, Brazil, where a total of 140 nests were studied. Males and females shared the breeding care period. However, females invested about 8% more on incubation than males (c² = 7,37; c² critic = 3,842). Time of absence in the nest for females was larger than for males (c² = 13,9; c² critic = 3,842). This is probably a function of females bringing food to chicks more... |

This study compared niche breath, prey size, and diet variability in two pairs of sympatric species of terrestrial insectivorous birds, each pair containing one species that can persist in small forest fragments and one that does not. The pairs were Myrmeciza ferruginea and Sclerurus rufigularis; and Formicarius colma and F. analis, respectively. The prey availability in forest fragments was also sampled and compared to the availability in continuous forests. Niche breath indices did not differ between pair members, but diet variability differed in the opposite direction from that hypothesized. Although the two bird species most vulnerable to fragmentation fed on larger prey than less vulnerable species, prey availability, including that based on prey size... |
